Joyce T. Uetrecht

Joyce Thomas Uetrecht (nee Joyce Ellen Thomas), age 81, passed away peacefully in her home on November 12, 2020, surrounded by family. Joyce was born on March 22, 1939, in Cincinnati, OH, to Ben and Pauline Thomas. She attended Wyoming High School and received a bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Cincinnati, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. On August 27, 1960, Joyce married Dale Uetrecht. Her greatest passion was raising their four children and setting a foundation for them to excel in school and their respective careers. Her interests included music and the arts: playing the piano; singing in the church choir; and attending and supporting the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. She enjoyed literature, especially murder mysteries, and solving puzzles. She loved all the dogs in her life since childhood. Building traditions and creating memories, she was the heart of a loving and decent family. Joyce had a smile and spirit that would light up a room and that made her adored by everyone she met. Joyce was preceded in death by her father Ben, her mother Pauline, and her grandson Cory. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dale; by her children, David (Leah Felton), Jim (Libby), Jeff (Mary), and Darci (Janell Bruneau); by her grandchildren, Brendan (Lindsey), Valery, Madison, Winter, Fai, Ethan, and Zachary; and by her canine companions, Harry and Sally. Private services will be held at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Ohio or Southern Poverty Law Center.
