Our History

Our History

With its beginnings in 1860, the Mt. Healthy landmark is one of Ohio's oldest funeral homes.  Most funeral homes can be traced back to necessity.  As towns grew, someone skilled in carpentry was needed to build caskets.

Founded by Andrew Neidhard in Taylor's Creek, Neidhard Funeral Home began as an outgrowth of his cabinet business.  In 1923, Joseph Neidhard and his wife Alma established the present Mt. Healthy location on Hamilton Avenue.  As time went on, their children, Joe Jr., Larry and Shirley followed in their parent's footsteps in the business and the community.

In 1995, the funeral home was sold to a large corporation.  The funeral home went through many changes and managers, losing its family business feel.

In September of 2014, Paul Young, III bought the funeral home from that large corporation and changed the business plan dramatically.  Paul III is able to bring over 20 years of customer-centered funeral business experience that his father instilled in him.

Our Valued Staff

  • Paul R. Young III

Paul R. Young III, Owner / Funeral Director

Paul Young, III was raised in Mt. Healthy, Ohio. He attended Jane Hoop Elementary, South Junior High and is a 1988 graduate of Mt. Healthy High School. There has never been a time when he wasn’t around the funeral business. He worked there as a teenager and college student. He was taught from a very young age, by his father and grandfather, the importance of working hard and earning the respect of those you serve. In 1992, he married his high school sweetheart, Nadine (Rader) Young, a 1989 graduate of Mt. Healthy High School. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1994 and immediately began working as a funeral director/embalmer. He has always been community-minded, with a desire to help people. He joined the Mt. Healthy Fire Department/EMS in 1988. After 14 years of service, he retired as a Captain and a Chaplain. He and his wife have been members of Friendship Baptist Church since 1994. Paul is a member of the McMakin Lodge 120 F & A.M. He also is a 32nd Degree Mason of Cincinnati and a member of the Syrian Shrine. They have three children, Courtney, Cassidy and Paul Young, IV.

Sometimes, life takes turns that are unplanned or unforeseen. Paul believed that he would begin and end his career at the funeral home his grandfather founded. After his grandfather’s death in 2013, it became clear in 2014 that the running of the funeral home would be taking a different direction. Never doubting that God had a better plan for his family, he realized that unforeseen changes are often a blessing in disguise. In September, 2014, Paul and Nadine purchased Neidhard Snow Funeral Home, now Neidhard-Young Funeral Home, which holds the distinction as being the oldest funeral home in Mt. Healthy and one of the oldest in Ohio. Purchasing the funeral home from a large corporation, Paul is eager to return to the family owned/operated funeral home business model that he witnessed his entire life. With old-fashioned values of compassion, respect and honor, he intends to return to the tradition of treating the families he serves as he would his own friends and family. We invite you to stop by or call with any questions about how we can assist or serve you. We hope you will consider Neidhard-Young Funeral Home when dealing with the difficult decisions that need to be made when faced with the death of a loved one.
